Duel!
This piece was another written for “Tabletop Games: Defining and Designing.” In this case, we were required to design a tabletop game and write a rulebook for it. This game was the result, a fast-paced card game requiring players to move their cards around the board as quickly as possible.
Although I had game design experience prior to this course, I had very little experience with writing rulebooks, which meant that I had to undergo several revisions for this project. I believe that, regardless of the actual quality of the game, the structure of the rulebook is respectable. The visuals could be stronger, and I believe that ultimately the game was still somewhat confusing to my playtesters, but the layout is solid and I believe this shows my ability to design around major constraints and write clear rules for unfamiliar situations.
