Keeping the Stars in the Sky
This piece was written for "The Making of Modern Brazil", a course which covered the history of Brazil through the lens of racial inequality and social dynamics. For one of my required essays, I decided to write about the experiences of the Yanomami people of northwestern Brazil, particularly their encounters with illegal loggers and their fight to maintain their land rights over the course of the past several hundred years.
I chose to include this piece because I believe it demonstrates incredibly well my ability to research a somewhat obscure topic, analyze it, and discuss its ramifications. Through this piece, I learned how to do research and create a proper thesis, while also not getting too stuck in my own head in pursuit of perfection.
