For Love of Gold

This piece was written for my Early Modern European History course, which discussed the key political, cultural, and scientific shifts in European society between 1600 and 1789. For our final paper, we were required to draft an argumentative essay explaining whether we believed the political, philosophical, or economic shifts of this period were the most impactful. I chose to argue in favor of economic shifts, resulting in the paper below.

I believe that this paper does an excellent job of demonstrating my argumentative abilities. The question posed by the assignment was an incredibly large one, and one which I was hesitant to answer owing to all the nuance involved, but I believe I was able to formulate a reasonable point and present it well regardless. This piece was crucial in the development of my argumentative writing skills as a whole, and so I knew I had to include it in this portfolio.
