Definitional Argument
This piece was written for a course titled “Tabletop Games: Defining and Designing”. It was a First-Year Seminar course designed to provide an introduction to reading, analyzing, and writing at a collegiate level. My first major assignment for this course was to develop a definitional argument for the meaning of a “game” - we were allowed significant freedom in terms of the form of this piece, and so I decided to make the argument, itself, into a game of sorts.
I decided to include this piece first and foremost because I think it serves as an example of my ability to get creative with structure and pacing - using the relatively limited tools Google Docs provides, I was able to create a sort of “seek and find” game within my argumentative structure. However, I also think it serves as a solid example of how I’ve improved as a writer - the prose is somewhat stilted and flat, and I believe my growth is easy to notice when comparing it to some of my later works.
